Christine Nowak Landscapes of the Sacred #2

My second of Lane's axioms, Sacred place is ordinary place, ritually made extraordinary, is an extremely powerful statement. This axiom provides the idea that every hike, journey, or trip that you take in life is not considered extraordinary at all. It is not until you have actually come across this place, and gathered a special experience from it, that it changes from ordinary to extraordinary. An example of this in my life would be coming to Christopher Newport. Before I came here, I was just going away to some college. I was excited and couldn't wait to experience college, but this was just an empty campus before I arrived here. Once I made friends, joined clubs, and entered into a sorority I felt that this university was amazing and extraordinary. After I had found myself here I felt that this was truly the place I was supposed to be at. If I had not had all of these experiences I would not have like this college, and would probably have wanted to transfer, because it would have just seemed like an ordinary place for me.
