Hollie Reid Landscape #1
My favorite axiom is Lane's third, sacred place can be tred upon without being entered. I think that it is the idea that I can be experiencing something that no one else is, while in the same vicinity. Something I consider majestic and sublime can be an everyday occurrence to others, and essentially have lost its awe. Or, they could simply not find it to be something worth pausing to experience. In Cold Fever, Hirata had a personal tie to the river because of this parent's death. Others visiting that river simultaneously with Hirata had no way to even come close to understanding what he felt when at the river. In accordance with Lane's second axiom, Hirata theoretically could have come across this same river prior to his parents' death and not have thought anything of it, but because of the ritualistic nature of the river years later, he then enters the loca sacra.
