Hollie Reid Open Topic #2

CNU used to be such a beautiful place to me. Due to the construction, I feel like I have been robbed of much of my experience at CNU. When I return for some alumni event, I'm going to have no idea of where or what anything is. Thinking of this, it has severely lessened my identification with this school. I do not feel a strong desire to go to football games, or support the clubs. I dread walking to class. The first thing say when they hear I go to CNU is, oh, isn’t that a pretty campus? And I respond with, it used to be. And I'm sure it will be again, but CNU has lost the magic for me. Granted, I still like driving onto campus and night and seeing all the Christmas lights year round, and the campus looks alright if you are standing in between the library and the admin building, but that is it. Im tired of not being able to walk where I want, im tired of construction workers yelling at me, im tired of the "green walls" that don’t hide anything. The term "green walls" give me impression that CNU is doing something for the environment, not tearing down the hippie tree, ripping up the great lawn, and destroying many other things so that we can have big pretty buildings. Unfortunately with the rate that classes are being cut (which in my mind, the money from those classes is being used to build those buildings, I don’t care what anyone says) there won't be any classes to be held in all these giant buildings. AND rumor has it that the class of 2013 will have to live on campus through the duration of their junior year, and eventually it is going to be required that students live on campus all 4 years, so there wont be very many students here anyway. Just because we are students doesn’t mean we aren’t people too. We need room to grow up, and that does not mean in a cramped dorm room with a roommate. And we need something to make us proud of being students of CNU, the construction will not be done by the time I graduate, tuition prices are going up while the number of classes available are going down, so I guess im going to have to find something else to pride myself in while im here. Where's the magic CNU?
