Hollie Reid Open Topic #4

I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do after college. More specifically where I want to go after college. I visited New York City a couple of times in high school and fell in love. NYC isn’t typically what you picture when you imagine an environment calling out to you. I love the city. I hate all the pollution it produces, but then again, nothing is perfect. Unfortunately, it is crazy expensive to live in NYC, not to mention dangerous. The next best city that calls out to me, Richmond. Again, not what one would expect, with the dirt and grime and crime, but you don’t get to pick what you love, it picks you. Richmond is actually pretty beautiful depending on where you go. Belle Isle is gorgeous. I love climbing on the big rocks and almost falling in the water. Maymont park is pretty amazing too. They have tons of animals, and Japanese gardens, a waterfall, fountains, a bamboo forest. I've spent entire days there without seeing everything that Maymont has to offer. To be completely honest, my favorite part of Richmond is the skyline. I love the feeling I get when im driving and I come over the bridge and get the perfect view of it. I've always liked buildings and big lights ever since I was little. It isn’t the wilderness, but I still get the same majestic feeling when im there that you get from watching the sun rise.

If I don’t move to Richmond when I graduate, I think I will take some time for myself and live in the outer banks in the summer, and at a ski resort in the winters. There are great job opportunities and cheap housing. And you get the best of both worlds. While im recovering from mountain overload, I can sit back and enjoy the ocean and sell people bathing suits. When summer is over, I can move into the mountains and spend the winter snowboarding and serving people hot chocolate. The beach/mountain duo sounds much more relaxing. But I guess I still have 2 and a half years to decide. J
