Hollie Reid Pilgrimage #3

A liminal action is a psychological, neurological, or metaphysical subjective, conscious state of being on the threshold of or between two different existential planes. This is what people are said to experience when they feel the presence of a higher being, and generally use it as evidence of God's existence. Occurrences considered to be miraculous, called a miracle are generally considered to be a liminal action. Sometimes, this is when something unexplainable happens. For example, if someone was really, deathly ill with no hopes of returning to health, and suddenly got better. Or if someone was blind and suddenly was able to see again. When several people experience this liminal action, they can form a communitas. They have something in common because they experience this unbelievable occurrence and any one else they were to tell about this would probably doubt them. Turner describes experiencing a liminal action as time standing still, the future standing still, and everything being in balance.
