Kyle Shipe: Liminality
I have never heard the idea of liminality until this class. In latin it means "threshold" and after listening to your personal experiences and ideas of liminality it makes a lot of sense. I find that I am in a liminal place more often then I ever thought. Going from middle school to high school was a state and process of mid-transition. Going from high school to college was a liminal state as well as the time between being dependent on my parents and making decisions for myself. Another good view of liminality can be seen on a spiritual journey. For instance, when someone goes to hike the A.T. there is a liminal state that is entered during the transition to wilderness and freedom and the loss of idea of structure and status in society. Liminality is something that cannot be seen or felt, it is a place that can only be found when you are lost.
