Nate Morris - Reading Review - Turner 1

Flow is described by Turner as the merging of action and awareness, wherein human beings are able to recognize the fact that each action has an equal and opposite reaction. It must occur in a way that does not require conscious effort in order to move and transition from one action to the other. One summer I was able to travel to Thailand where I got to witness the notion of flow first hand. As the individuals I encountered who called this nation home went about their day to day lives, it became apparent that their actions were not derived from forceful intentions, but rather from necessity and from a oneness with the land. These people's lives were so well integrated with nature and with the sacredness of this land upon which they reside that there was no need to form any sort of conflict by going against flow, because there is a mutual symbiotic relationship that is evident which is, in the end, beneficial for the people of Thailand, as well as for the Thai landscape, as the use of flow in everyday life breed respect between both parties.
