Samson Girma- Flow
After reading Turner’s text and discussing it in class, I have come to understand flow as being very zoned in on something on some act or thought. It reminds me of when I’m watching a game and Kobe Bryant will go on a hot streak, particularly late in the game when a clutch performance is needed, and an announcer will say “he’s in the zone right now, there’s no stopping him.” During these moments, we are completely into whatever it is we are doing, there’s no distracting us. I can relate to this because when I have a paper due and I wait til the last minute to do it, I jokingly make a basketball to my friends and I’ll say, “I’m just watching the shot clock.” Once time starts ticking down, I increasingly get more focused, no matter what time of the day it is or what little sleep I’ve had. Anyone can get into this “zone,” I just think it’s about how much you care about what you’re doing. I think pressure is the best way to get in this zone, some people are extremely competitive and their expectations of themselves can push them to pouring everything they have into giving their best performances.
