Visit to the Noland Trail
We visited the Noland Trail as a class this semester, it was my second time there in the five years I have been at college. The first time was with a personal trainer I hired to get me in shape, he had me walk/jog the trail. This most recent time was to visit an outdoor setting and interact with the setting. The Noland Trail was calm and peaceful, and the weather could not have been better, not too warm but not cool either. This was the first time I went outside with the intention on interacting with the setting. There were trees, a few joggers, and a couple of dog walkers on the trail while we were there. After some discussion, we all went our separate ways to experience the trail for ourselves.
The trail was calm, like it had a personality of its own. Damage from previous storms were visible but the fallen trees looked as if they were supposed to be there, a part of nature. As far as relating this experience to the class, it was a class activity but at the same time it was amazing to see something that close to what I would call “wilderness” in the middle of a city like Newport News. When you enter the trail it is almost as if you leave the city behind and that was the best feeling about it. For a few brief moments the terrible drivers did not exist, assignment deadlines did not exist, and there was only trail, nothing else. It was nice to escape for a little while, I wish I had visited the trail more often. It is interesting to see what you notice when you actually take the time to look, and that is something everyone should keep in mind.
