10. Walden Seclusion from Society Daniel Sharp

One of the major points of going to the wilderness is to separate yourself from society and all of its worries and tedium. Henry David Thoreau had some of the same ideas when he went to live in a cabin at the outskirts of town. He wanted an escape from the average town life which in his time was becoming more and more important while wilderness and the outdoors were fading. He even met a self sufficient slave lumber jack on his way to Canada and called him the “ideal man”. He was living in wilderness on his own going to Canada to escape his masters and be free. He was literally breaking free from the constraints of society through the wilderness to get more than just a sense of freedom like Thoreau was but he was actually seeking real freedom.
