8. Noland Trail does distance from society make a difference? Daniel Sharp

The Noland Trail is secluded from the industrial and suburban parts of Newport News for the most part but it is very close to them when it comes to distance. Although it certainly can be used as some sort of escape from the stress of a normal day filled with tedium it is essentially only a mile away from everything people would be trying to escape from. Does this lack of distance between society really matter? From my perspective I believe it does because in the back of everyone’s mind is the constant worries and responsibilities that they are obligated to. Because those obligations are so close physically it makes it harder to disconnect from that world. There is no doubt that the trail can serve as a sort of release but it most certainly would be more effective if there was more separation between it and everyone’s regular day to day lives.
