Aaron Hackett Outside Reading 1: depth

I have been reading the book A Brief History of Everything by Ken Wilber on and off for some time now. I am still in the early stages of the book and have not yet gotten into the very deep and spiritual aspects of it yet. While the early stages are very basic, they still present very interesting information, like the chapter I read today about depth, for instance. Depth is presenting along with span in order to not get the two confused. Span is more the amount people on a particular level of depth. For example, everything that we can see or touch is matter and therefore exists on that first level of depth. However, not everything is alive or on the second level of depth. Beyond that, not everything thinks or has a conscious mind. The levels of depth in order are: matter and physics, life and biology, mind and psychology, soul and theology, and spirit and mysticism. I became confused when thinking about dwelling in each level of depth. How can you survive purely on your mind, soul, or spirit? Shouldn’t you be worried about your body? This was quickly cleared up when Wilber said, “each level transcends and includes its predecessor. Spirit transcends all, so it includes all.
