Alex Clark: Natural Experience 2: woods
I was riding my bike on a path in the woods behind my house today (11/26/09) enjoying the autumn colors and weather. I got off of my bike and began walking through the woods. I had interesting thoughts, putting myself in the place of a tree, imagining the people passing by, considering the viewpoints of an immovable, long lasting piece of nature. I looked at individual plants and small creatures, trying to look deeper into them than the basic outer appearance, thinking about how they worked, what was required for their motions or survival. I took in my surroundings, closed my eyes and attempted to become a part of it, a part of one whole instead of an individual in an area. I sat in the woods for quite a few minutes, having lost track of time. I cannot profess to any sacred experience, but my time was calming and gave me a sense of connection with nature. There is always a sense of soothing that accompanies chosen thought in chosen solitude, especially when done in God-created space.
