Community versus communitas, is another one of the hard to understand concepts coming out of this classes reading. From reading this section I believe that I understand how community is the hierarchal structure found throughout society, while communitas is the connection of people as one. This concept did not click easily in my mind because, well because I don’t see the world has having any sort of communitas. In my mind, there is a hierarchal structure that I am always attempting to climb, whether it be from high school student to college student, or from employee to manager. I found this idea very difficult to see throughout life, beyond the classroom. Within our class I find it easy enough to understand how a communitas is created to share a sacred experience because the person and the constituents of the place are communicating without mediation to share the experience.
