Douglas Pelenberg: Personal Choice, sacredness in culture
Sacredness in culture. I feel that everyone has some form of impact on culture. Any individual has their own culture created from their experiences, and their experiences stem from interaction with others. It is therefore everyone who owns culture. Everyone also has a hand in creating culture, but some people more so than others. Mass media plays one of the larger roles in the creation of culture. Because these mediums are viewed on the global scale their influence reaches more people and impacts culture further. One could argue that the mass media itself is a cultural police. It is the mass media that decides what will be viewed by society. They can censor, add bias, and choose exactly what information will be available to the public. This regulation of media affects what people view as sacred to our culture.
