Elizabeth Robertson: Cosmos
Cosmos is the idea of an ordered reality and it is capable of maintaining itself in chaos. In other words, think of a man meditating in the middle of Times Square in NYC. This a kind of visual of cosmos. In class we talked about how religion is the practice of maintaining cosmos. This is because religion is centered around finding peace in a higher being. I think it is really interesting how a lot of different religions, in fact most religions, are focused on peace. It makes me wonder, if so many people are focused on peace, why is there so much fighting and violence in the world? I think the answer is that one act of violence will cause a thousand other acts of revenge. Cosmos then could possibly be the answer to much of the violence in the world.
