Joseph Rivera: Image and Pilgrimage 2
One topic from Turner’s book that brought up an interesting discussion in class was the topic of flow. From Turner’s book, flow is the merging of action and awareness, the crucial component of enjoyment. It is when we act with no apparent need for conscious intervention on our part, so it is like a reflex. This is interesting because I experience this most when I am playing soccer. I will just act without really making an effort to act, and it is times like this where I play my best soccer. So in a way to try and live in this state should be a state of perpetual happiness. Turner confirms this when he mentions that people sometimes forsake a comfortable life to live in this state. What I do not understand stand is that if you seek to live in this manner will you not be, as Turner states, aware that he is aware, interrupting the flow.
