Light by Diana Cox based on Barbara Weightman’s Sacred landscapes and the Phenomenon of Light

For centuries light has given us heat and resources. In modern times movies have popularized the concepts of good versus evil with the usage of light and darkness. Light has been used to represent the goodness of life. Light is pure and shines light into the unknown territory of life. It represents a renewal of life or even a beginning of a life. Light is also portrayed as breaking through the darkness, like the sun peeking out amongst the dark clouds. A movie example would be Star Wars which uses the imagery of light with the forces of good being in lighter wardrobe colors. On the other hand the forces of evil are covered in black and darker colors to help the movie-goers visual the good and bad guys. Darkness is claimed to represent the evil of the universe. Darkness lurks and hides that which is known in the light. In the movies when something bad is about to happen darkness lurks on to the screen with eerie music. When watching a television show or even a movie look for different representations of light and darkness; and how it relates to religious rituals.
