Live trees, dead trees, fake trees: Katrina Thralls

It’s almost that time of year. The time when we ignore the miracle of the thriving coniferous trees the whole year and worship fake trees, decorating them and leaving presents at their feet. For as long as I can remember, my family has had a fake Christmas tree and a fake log at Yule. I would rather walk with someone I love through the woods than to sit and stare at a fake tree. The trees in the forest have spirit. You have an ability to connect to the trees and others within the forest through this connection. In high school, I used to sit in the woods quietly for hours at a time without feeling any sort of boredom or feeling like anything was lacking, because I had that connection and spirit flowing through me, which is saying something considering my ADHD. Yet more and more people turn to fake trees. While I appreciate that they are not killing the trees, but could you not have a live tree in your house? This is even less common than simply a real tree (which is a euphemism for dead trees, since the fake trees are in fact real, they are just not naturally grown). Then again, maybe it doesn’t matter as long as you keep the spirit of the conifer in mind.
