Natalie Gilbert: Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture

Turner defines communitas as “A relational quality of communication, even communion, between definite and determinate identities, which arises spontaneously in all kinds of groups, situations, and circumstances.” I love this concept because it allows all kinds of people to connect, bond, and learn from one another. I believe the idea of communicating with new and different people and creating human bonds is wonderful. The concept of communitas is actually one of the main driving forces behind me wanting to hike the Appalachian Trail. After watching Lion King, his comrades, and those he meets along his way form passionate life bond even after finishing the hike. I believe human connection and relationships are essential for learning and growing as individuals on this earth.
