Natalie Gilbert: Landscapes of the Sacred

I found Lane discussion of Chora and Kiaros very interesting. Chora is one way Lane describes the concept of space. Chora is the sense of an energizing force created by different distinctions labeling a particular space. I believe this force allows people to be present in a locale and connect with it rather than just occupying no special or particular space. So many times in our daily life we walk along and are not even fully aware of place, instead we lose contact with the environment around us. We do not connect, we only physically take occupy. It is the term Kairos Lane uses comparable to the term Chora but instead of in relation to space it is in relation to time. Kiaros is not so much a measurable sense of time, rather an opportunity in time. It allows for the creation of memories and experiences rather then a simple measurement of time. It is these ideas that help create awareness of how to utilize space and time.
