Natalie Gilbert: Landscapes of the Sacred

In Lane’s Landscapes of the Sacred there is the idea of a symbolic meaning of place. Lane describes this symbolic meaning of place to tell about oneself. Is it true that we project images onto places or that places project images onto us? Is it really one or the other or a combination of both? Place being filled with particular things and people containing past experiences when having an encounter would they not meet in the middle? Is it true that where you are is who you are? Place suffers a tension according to Lane between spaciousness and confinement. Many seek more in life while others are content with being at home. Personally I need a balance, I love to travel and meet new people, but on the other hand I love and hold my family as a priority and would never be able to fully abandon them in a never-ending conquest of nomadic travel.
