Natalie Gilbert: Topic of Personal Choice
The idea of myth was one of the first discussions we had of this semester. The term myth is applied to what is considered unknown and that to which cannot be proven. Myths are not tested and if they are or can be then the no longer exist as myths. Myths do not consist of beginnings and ends. Myths are stories the make us think we have an understanding of what is real and that is greater than us. We as human normally want to experience and when we cannot myths and stories allow us as close as possible to living the experience without actually doing it. In terms of my paper, myths about the afterlife drive the acts of rituals. Since it cannot be proven what happens after death speculations have been made. These speculations create the myths to then which the people belief as a reality based on faith.
