Natalie Gilbert: Experience in Natural Setting

Usually when I go on a jog I never known how long or to where I am going, I simply make spontaneous choices of direction. On this particular day I ended up in a neighborhood I had never been to. I was running around when I came to lake and fountain. I sat down on the bench to take a break and enjoy the aesthetically pleasing view. I sat on a nearby bench and as the sound of water calmed me I got lost in thought. When I go running it isn’t just to exercise, but to get lost in my own thoughts and somewhat escape from reality. While I sat on the bench I thought about how I didn’t always have to run to accomplish this sense of escape, but through the healing aspect of nature I could also have time of reflection. Although it was just a small lake and fountain, the outdoors and its inhabitants, allowed me to feel at peace with my place in the world.
