Nate Morris - Outside Reading 2
Recently, I have been reading the book 'Going Rogue' by former Alaska Governor and Republican Vice Presidential Nominee Sarah Palin. In it, Palin describes, in detail, growing up in Alaska, working to customize herself with the wide array of wilderness experiences that awaited her each and every day. As her life in Alaska progressed, she recounts several occasions where the natural place she was in became a large part of the experiences she had throughout her life. One such experience, as recounted in the book, was when she became a Christian, offering her life to God. She recalls being at a Christian camp, standing on a dock overlapping the lake in the middle of the camp, watching as the sun illuminated all of the natural beauty surrounding the lake shore . She recalls feeling so insignificant, so powerless, standing in the midst of all that the Lord had created. She felt an overwhelming sense of joy in that moment in knowing that, as powerful as God is, He still loves her and still has a plan for her. By participating in that sacred place and being able to bridge the cap between the earthly and the supernatural, she took an ordinary place and, at least for her, made it sacred.
