Rachel Goodwyn-Manchu Picchu
Seven years ago I got the chance to visit Manchu Picchu, while I was on a mission trip with my youth group in Peru. Being on top of that mountain in a city built so long ago gave me a sublime feeling. I felt so insignificant and small next to the hug stone buildings and steps. The steps themselves were about three times as tall as steps regularly found in American buildings. We took a bus on a one lane road to get up to the ancient city on the mountain and I have never been so afraid in my life, because as we were going up there was another bus coming down. I knew that at any moment there was a chance we would accidently drive over the side of the mountain and there was visible evidence that it had happened before, which only added to the sublime feeling I felt being there. It was a wonderful experience to interact with a place that once was the home to Peruvians many years ago and is now a legacy to the engineering and intellect of the people who built the city.
