Rachel Goodwyn-Walking the Noland Trail

As a child my family and I would frequently go to the Noland Trail to spend the afternoon out in nature, but never before did I perceive the experience as anything special or unique. Of course I always noticed the fallen trees and foot printed ground, but I never understood that these things had a story to tell. The ground is always receiving and holding every impression of the people who had previously walked upon it. Every fallen tree is a witness and can give testament of fierce storms that consistently alter the face of nature. Many people walk or run over this trail and never stop to take the time and just listen to the story that nature longs to tell every human if they are patient to listen and hear. So next time you find yourself alone in nature stop and take time from your bus schedule to sit and listen to the magnificent story nature has been waiting to tell you of history.
