Aaron Thompson- Pilgrimage 1
One of the ideas that we consistently talk about during class lecture from "Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture" is the idea of liminality. Liminality is the mid transition phase in rite of passage in which you pass through a realm that has few or none of the attributes of the past or coming state. While in the liminal state, there is an idea of no place and no time in which classification is resisted. In addition, individuals are stripped of status and authority and removed from social structure. A good example of liminality that we learned in class is hikers on the appalachian trail.
