On page 254 of Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture, Turner defines Flow. Flow is defined as the merging of action and awareness, the crucial component of enjoyment. Turner states that flow is the holistic sensation present when we act with total envolvement, a state in which action follows action according to an internal logic with no apparant need for conscious intervention on our part in which whole body and mind is involved. Flow is experienced in play and sport. Dr. Redick explained the state of flow in simpler terms as "being in the zone"
