Chris Estes Student Choosing #3
The Noland Trail is an amazing and breathtaking place to be. I'm not much of a hiker or nature guy, but this place has something special about it. When we walked up to the bridge, the lions were there to guard it. It seemed that there was some boundary that you had to get passed, just to be apart of its miraculous findings. The next thing I knew, we were walking on the trail and it started to hit me. The whole deal about being out here is to experience something I haven't for a very long time. I used to as a little kid love to play around in the grass, mud, and anything I could get my clothes dirty on. I loved to be outdoors, and feel the breeze in my hair. Back to the present, we started to walk down this eerie path. I spotted something I will probably never forget. It was a heart shaped cut in the base of a tree. I started to look at it a little more closely, and on the other side of the trail the other half of the tree was laid. The thing about it was, the other half of the tree didn't have that same heart cut in the trunk of the tree. This symbolized and made me think about something. Maybe trees do have hearts, and we don't take the time to realize this special fact. It was interesting to inspect the tree and see what might have caused this shape in the trunk. Nothing I could find would prove my point of maybe some bugs or termites could have caused this. That was my special experience at the Lions Gate Bridge and the Noland Trail.
