Rachel Goodwyn- Lane’s Chronos and Kairos

In Landscapes of the Sacred two forms of time perception are described, which are chronos and kairos. Chronos is described as the repetitive ticking of the clock, with every second precisely equal to the next second. For the world it is the measured time of every day. Kairos, however, is the unrepeatable moment when events of great significance come to be gathered in the life of an individual or a people. The second perception is of each moment as an opportunity, rather than just measured time. Those experiences we tend to remember the most are those times we perceive as kairos, because there is something that sets those times apart from the mundane parts of life.
