Samson Girma- Modern Christianity and Environmental Protection

In John Gatta’s Making Nature Sacred he addresses the topic of modern Christianity and the protecting the environment by describing Wendell Berry’s views on the topic. Berry has criticized institutional Christianity for not preaching environmental healing and responsibility to followers. He claims that much of Modern Christianity is so greatly interested in exploitive industry that it “connives directly in the murder of Creation” (201). He claims that these people have accepted a destructed economy and is more concerned with economic profit than environmental issues. I’ve never thought of Modern Christianity and the environment but now that I have, I can understand where he is coming from and would be interested in hearing a Christian who believes the two ideas aren’t related.
