Crystal Kernan #14 Personal Choice
My boyfriend's aunt and uncle have hiked the Appalachian Trail twice. They are an older married couple, enjoy the outdoors and are very adventurous. They do not have kids and have never owned a home. They live on a sailboat and travel all along the east coast. Currently, they are staying at the Florida Keys and have jobs to help with expenses. During the spring months, they enjoy going hiking. When I first signed up for this class it made me think of them and then when we covered certain topics I thought of them. When they came to visit a couple months back I started to tell them about this class and how Dr. Redick spoke a lot about the AT. I began to ask them questions about their experience on the trail. They told me that they did not hike for spiritual or religious reasons, just solely for the challenge and to meet all of the wonderful people. They have made many friends from the trail and it is something they have always enjoyed doing. It gave me a different perspective about hiking and the AT coming from their point of view.
