Joseph Rivera: Transplanting pilgrimage Traditions in the Americas
In Prorok’s Transplanting Pilgrimage Traditions in the Americas he discusses people or groups wanting to transplant pilgrimage traditions. What Prorok is trying to say is that he wants to move the traditions and experiences of one pilgrimage to either a different location or to a different period of time. This is extremely interesting but I do not think it is totally possible. I believe something would get lost in the movement of the pilgrimage. I do not think you would get the same experience as you would get from the original pilgrimage. I believe this because based on Lane’s third axiom a place is made sacred through rituals. I feel like if what makes a place sacred is its ritualistic nature I do not think you should be able to just pick it up and move it. The new site of the moved pilgrimage would only be a shadow of the real thing.
