Crystal Kernan #6 Image and Pilgrimage
Liminality comes from the Latin term, limen, meaning a threshold. Have you ever felt like you were in a threshold or stuck in a position you could not get out of? I know I have. To be liminal means to be in between stages. When we first began talking about this topic in class I began to think about the stages of my life. For instance, the in between stage going from adolescent transitioning to adult. Also, the position I'm in now, a stage from student to going in to the real world. The example given in class of the transformation Dr. Redick went through in Marine boot camp was a great way of describing this subject. I am sure in the future we will all go through more life changing stages. We will be able to look back on this class and know that it derives from liminality.
