Dwain Harrison – Tell me a story
While we were in class, we spent a lot of time answering the question into why we tell stories? We concluded that the reason we tell stories is to relive the experience. This concept is extremely pertinent to my life. I often tell stories but I really never thought about why I tell them. It is to relive the experience though. Without being able to revert back to a time that was filled with pleasure and joy, we begin to lose that experience. An example of this is when I get on the phone with one of my baseball buddies from high school. We often talk about the amazing trip we took to Florida and how fun it was. I think telling a story is often times a way for you to make the other person feel as you feel. You may want the listener of the story to experience your jubilation. A sense of empathy may be what you are searching for.
