Dwain Harrison - Western influence

As we my professor spoke in my class he made a statement that was relevant to this ULLC 223 class. He said that when the English were trying to settle on American soil, their goal was not to live harmoniously with nature, but instead to dominate it. This coincides with what Professor Redick said in class about how the Native Americans were living with nature, essentially worshipping the ground and earth, while the Europeans came and over powered nature. This can be looked at bad and good. The bad of this is that when the Europeans came over, they forced the Native Americans out and the Native Americans were the ones who clearly had cultivated crops on this soil for centuries. Also, they did not respect nature which led to their failed attempts to set up a stable fellowship of Englishmen. The good that came out of this was innovation and technology. Also, without these primitive Americans, we would not have this great country that we live in today. However, I always wonder that if we would have synthetically worked with Native Americans, we could have avoided all of the failed attempts at setting up a successful community.
