Bret Marfut alternate reading 3 Williamson

The article Wild woods and Sacred Groves discusses the role of wilderness, particularly the role of forests and groves. The article covers these aspects of nature from a perspective of several different religions, from Old Testament and New Testament Christianity to ancient Greek theology. The article paints groves as having a sinister connotation. Williamson contrasts the generally peaceful stereotype of places with trees, like the garden of eden, with groves that are analogous to darkness and confusion. I thought it was interesting that the symbolic meaning of groves was common to both Christian and Greek religions, two that seem to be extremely dissimilar. This kind of symbolic commonality might be indicative of a common link between the these two religions
