Volunteering by Diana Cox

Christopher Newport University emphasizes the concept of community. As a school we are a community of students and faculty working together. Although CNU has created there own academic community we serve the community and city of Newport News. Several students from Christopher Newport University serve the surrounding around with there time, money and resources. Basically the students share their love with the community. I personally volunteer my time and energy at By Grace Community Church, watching children for a women’s bible study. In addition, to volunteering at By Grace Community Church, I also volunteer at Riverside Elementary School. These opportunities give me a chance to help others and to learn about children and their behaviors. I once was considering becoming an elementary school teacher when I grow up. My volunteer experience has allowed me to see the ends and outs of teaching. I get to see the ends and outs of teaching. My experience has taught me so many things about the aspects of the career world. I have now realized that elementary school teaching might not be the best choice in careers. I have realizes that I did not agree with all the testing that goes on in the classrooms. Instead of elementary teaching, I am now considering becoming a high school teacher instead. Only God knows what the future holds.
